A good title is clear, honest and matches what the video delivers. The Title Lab scores your title on five things viewers and search both care about, shows how it will look on a phone, and suggests rewrites you can adapt.
How to use it
- Type or paste your working title. Nothing is scored until you do.
- Add the main keyword someone would type to find the video (optional, but it unlocks the search-fit checks).
- Read the five meters, then fix the red and amber items first. Each one explains the reason and shows a fix.
- Pick a rewrite idea, adapt it so it is true for your video, and test it in the live phone and desktop previews.
How it works
The five meters are Clarity (length, plain words, a clear promise), Click appeal (a number, a question, tension or a benefit), Search fit (keyword present and early, not repeated), Honesty (no shouting, no repeated punctuation, no miracle-style claims) and Mobile fit (will it be cut off on small screens). Together they give a writing score out of 100.
This is a writing checklist, not a prediction. YouTube does not publish a title score, and no tool can know how your audience will react. The best test is still your own data: compare click-through rate in YouTube Studio between title versions.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a YouTube title be?
There is no official limit shorter than 100 characters, but long titles are often cut off, especially on phones. Putting the key words in the first 50 to 60 characters keeps the promise visible. The tool shows exactly where your title may be cut.
Do numbers and questions really help?
They can make a promise more concrete or spark curiosity, but only when they are true for the video. The tool treats them as a plus, never as a requirement.
Does a high score mean more views?
No. It means the title follows good writing practice. Views depend on topic, thumbnail, audience, retention and many other factors.
Is my title stored anywhere?
No. The analysis runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us.
